Letlhakeng District Council chairperson, Mr Anderson Mathibe has appealed to residents to explore waste recycling to enhance sustainability and economic empowerment.
In his speech on Monday, Mr Mathibe said waste recycling was the way to go.
He said while some may view recycling as costly it was one of the most sustainable waste management practices.
He said recycling significantly reduced the amount of waste that polluted the environment and turned waste material into valuable resources while mitigating pollution levels.
Mr Mathibe also said recycling created employment opportunities and that some individuals earned a living through waste recycling.
He said recognising the value in waste material could contribute to a cleaner environment and also generate income through recycling.
He noted that in March the district council initiated a community clean-up campaign in Letlhakeng with the aim of extending the effort to all villages within the district, adding that the objective was to foster a clean and safe environment for all residents. “It is crucial that we collectively commit to maintaining cleanliness and safety in our surroundings,” he said.
He said they pledged to support all village initiatives to uphold cleanliness and safety standards. Ends
