Excellence awards reinforce commitment - Makwinja

19 May 2024

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development says academic excellence awards not only recognise star performers but also reinforce institutions’ commitment to fostering an environment of academic quality and success.

Ms Nnaniki Makwinja said this at the Kgari Sechele II Senior Secondary excellence awards ceremony recently, which aimed to honour and celebrate the remarkable commitment and dedication by the school’s staff and learners.

Ms Makwinja appreciated the efforts put in by teachers, non-teaching staff and learners to achieve great results in the history of the school in their 2023 BGCSE results.

“Congratulations to all our awardees and we look forward to continuing to support all of you for your perseverance. The results are truly amazing and reflect dedicated staff that continues to work hard to achieve excellence,” she said.

She said though the school had not been performing well in the past years, it was important to recognise excellence by individual learners’ performance.

She added that the school had correspondingly shown potential to improve and hence applauded its management for the various strategies it was currently embarking on to that effect.

“Teamwork is important in the workplace as it brings together different viewpoints and improves problem-solving capabilities. It also fosters efficiency and productivity, as tasks are completed faster with collaborative effort,” she said.

The school head, Ms Baitse Kebobone said it was important to celebrate efforts as a great way to shift a win at all cost.

Ms Kebobone also appreciated all stakeholders who supported the awards, saying “I would love to appreciate companies that funded this event, as this would have not been a success without their input.”

In a vote of thanks, Basic Education acting deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Mr Steve Bothasitse commended the school staff for working tirelessly to transform the school and encouraged them to continue working together amicably to attain good results.

Meanwhile, Bank Gaborone managing director, Ms Olebile Makhupe and Minergy Coal (Pty) Ltd chief executive officer, Mr Matthews Bagopi, among others, attended the awards ceremony. ends
