Lephoi Centre for the Blind recently organised a sponsored walk, the aim of which was to raise P300 000 to fund the centre’s projects.
Board chairperson, Mr Kitso Ramahobo said that the centre recently bought a five hectare ploughing field near Masunga to teach learners farming.
“We are going to embark on horticulture and layer chicken farming, to give the children an opportunity to make money for themselves,” he added.
With sponsorship from various entities, Mr Ramahobo said the centre managed to drill a borehole at a cost of P100 000.
The centre coordinator, Mr Ephraim Ngoma said partnerships were important to develop the centre.
He said they hoped to see the centre generating income and giving back to the community.
Former Lephoi Centre learner, now employee, Mr Mishingo Matthews stated that the centre groomed him to be the man he was today. He is now one of the braille assistants at Lephoi Centre.
Mr Matthews said the centre taught him a lot, noting that he was now good at playing Marimba, keyboard and the guitar. ENDs
