Nswazwi residents in Nkange constituency have been urged to utilise government programmes to improve their livelihoods.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in Nswazwi recently, Member of Parliament for Nkange, Dr Never Tshabang informed residents about programmes such as Chema, Temo Letlotlo, and Thuo Letlotlo and advsied them to choose the ones they preferred.
Dr Tshabang encouraged the public to always seek clarification from relevant offices to get proper information.
He said most people have been frequenting his constituency office in need of clarity on Chema Chema and where possible they have been able to assist and referred them to relevant offices.
He said he engaged Tutume District leadership for the Local Enterprise Authority to avail an officer to assist the public.
He applauded the district leadership for having acted swiftly noting that already an office had been allocated at the main kgotla.
Dr Tshabang disclosed that the district had been allocated P1.9 million being additional funds to the Makwala Sports Complex to fix the boundary wall that collapsed and for drilling of a borehole for water supply.
He said what was pending, was authorisation rights from Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) for the drilling company to start the works. He said through the Constituency Community Projects Fund, Nswazwi would get three tower lights that would be installed at strategic points.
The Member of Parliament said it was anticipated that the tower lights would help in the fight against escalating crime.
Responding to concerns raised by the Village Development Committee (VDC) among them illicit drugs in schools, Dr Tshabang lashed at parents who encouraged drug peddling. “Let us understand that we are destroying our children’s future by giving them drugs,” he said
Meanwhile, VDC chairperson, Mr Motsumi Maule had decried drug invasion in schools from primary to the brigade noting that children were found in possession of substances which they either used or sold to their peers.
He said the children allegedly got the drugs from parents who sold them to survive. Mr Motsumi thus urged parents to take bold steps to report anyone found to be peddling drugs. ENDs
