Deceased South Africa nationals identified

All the seven South Africa citizens who lost their lives in a road traffic accident on Sunday, along the A2 Road, near Ranaka junction have been identified by their relatives and church members.

The deceased persons are five females and two males aged between 37 and 72 years.

A statement from the Ministry of Health says after all the processes have been completed, the bodies will be repatriated to South Africa.

It says one survivor of the accident has been discharged from hospital while the other survivors were still admitted and being attended to at Kanye Adventist Hospital, Princess Marina Hospital and local private hospitals where their conditions are stable.

The statement points out that family members of the deceased and the survivors have been notified of the incident and accorded counselling.

It says the ministry and other stakeholders are taking all the necessary steps to ensure that the survivors are adequately treated and cared for.

“The ministry remains positive that all the victims will recover in due course and proceed with their journeys back home,” says the statement.

According to the Botswana Police Service, the accident occurred on the afternoon of April 28.  The accident involved a Range Rover with four passengers and a Toyota Hiace Combi with 14 South Africa citizens on board.

The deceased persons were in Botswana for a church service in Kanye and were on their way back to South Africa when the accident occurred.

Police investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the accident. ENDS
