01 May 2024

University of Botswana Chancellor, Dr Tebelelo Seretse says the nation needs citizens who can be counted on to help rebuild the country.

Speaking at the Kgolagano College Graduation in Gaborone on April 26, Dr Seretse said the college played a role in empowering individuals to go into the world as builders and instil hope where there was hopelessness.

Dr Seretse said the college’s studies developed spiritual leadership, which was necessary in building the morality of the country.

She stated that the nation was experiencing a myriad of social problems such as drug and alcohol abuse, gender based violence, corruption, crime and other social ills.

Dr Seretse said the nation would look to the graduates as citizens who had been equipped with theological knowledge, ethical leadership, Biblical knowledge and pastoral skills to contribute in reshaping the country’s direction.

She said their training ought to have powered them for all situations.

Dr Seretse said it was imperative to return to the moral pillars of the nation being Botho, Therisanyo, compassion, integrity and determination.

Kgolagano College Principal, Dr Prince Dibeela said graduands had to take the form of yeast by affecting situations without being seen.

Dr Dibeela said they had to rethink their citizenship of Botswana.

He also said Botswana was at the crossroads, and they had to play their part in rebuilding the country.

The college graduated 25 students in Certificate of Competence in Preaching, Certificate in Theology, Diploma in Practical Ministry and Honours in Bachelor of Arts in Theology. ENDS
