Makwinja advises learners to prioritise studies

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja, advised learners at Boipelego Junior Secondary School to prioritise their studies, emphasising that education was key to developing responsible leaders who could contribute meaningfully to the future economy.
During her visit to the school, Ms Makwinja encouraged the pupils attending the Boot camp to work diligently, highlighting the importance of their efforts in helping Botswana realise the goal of establishing a knowledge-based economy. She also emphasised the significance of ambition and perseverance in achieving one’s dreams.
Ms Makwinja stressed the importance of adapting to the changing world and encouraged pupils to approach the new phase with enthusiasm and optimism.
She also reminded them of the necessity of hard work for success, underscoring the crucial role that both teachers and parents played in supporting their educational journey.
Moreover, Ms Makwinja underscored the value of discipline and urged students to steer clear of substance abuse due to its detrimental effects on one’s life.
Addressing broader issues, the assistant minister mentioned the importance of cultivating a positive mindset shift as a shared objective to enhance overall life satisfaction and discover happiness in daily experiences.
‘When individuals embrace new perspectives and beliefs, they can break free from limitations, discover fresh opportunities, and enhance their careers and quality of life’, she said.
Earlier the school head Ms Neo Kgwadi said the school had an enrolment of 730 pupils in which 370 were boys while 351 were girls.
She said the school is a 24 stream and has double shift.
She said learners performance was exceptionally well despite challenges such as shortage of classrooms, poor maintenance of the school and water leakages.
She said lack of progression had demoralised some teachers, whom she said had stagnated in one position for years.
Ms Kgwadi appreciated parents for participating in their children school work
