Inaugural payment conference April end

An inaugural two day Botswana Payments Conference, dubbed the JRK Insights Conference is expected to take place from April 23 to 24 in Gaborone.
Its aim is to gather regional and local thought leaders and pioneers to effect true change in the evolving payments landscape.
“We will delve into topics such as financial inclusion focusing particularly on micro enterprise, innovation and the future of payments,” said JRK Training & Consulting managing director, Ms Constance Storm during a media briefing on Monday.
Such gatherings she said were usually held the world over and featured industry players to share insights, experiences, challenges, new and future solutions and technologies.
Ms Storm said gatherings such as these ‘are usually held in more mature markets whose player’s usually dominated the discussions.
She explained that they had invited regional and international players to a platform where the local industry took centre stage to exchange knowledge and experiences.
Detailing the conference, Ms Storm said the payment industry was a system and process that allowed people and businesses to pay and be paid for goods and services.
“Payments are core to the economic growth of any economy,” she said.
Ms Storm said payment acceptance had now elevated to wallet payments from traditional methods of payments.
The payment industry played a pivotal role in any economy and is indispensable in any modern society hence the inclusion of payments industry stakeholders from Botswana and the region.
Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, Mr Thulaganyo Segokgo is expected to be among the speakers.
Business Development director at JRK Training & Consulting, Ms Kate Senye, said the consultancy was a Botswana-owned education and training provider, fully accredited by the Botswana Qualification Authority since 2012. She said they provided consultancy services that included training solutions across industries, design and curate bespoke training programmes and workshops, using flexible delivery modes.
“We also host webinars and summits on topical issues and offer a wide range of professional short courses designed to continuously improve productivity in various sectors of Botswana’s economy,” she said
The conference will afford attendees a chance to gain knowledge from industry experts, network opportunities with like minded professionals and it is tailored to address specific challenges and opportunities facing the payment sector.
It will also empower them with practical strategies to thrive in today’s digital economy. Ends
