Some tertiary institutions have made an in-kind donation of 675 sanitary pads worth P40 000 to be distributed to girls in Maun and Shakawe senior secondary schools.
The donation was made during the tertiary institutions national roadshow, which was held at the Botswana Open University in Maun recently.
The roadshow featured about 25 tertiary institutions and aimed at sharing with aspiring students a wealth of information on career opportunities and how to access higher education.
Speaking at the event, the roadshow Chairperson, Mr Chris Moiketsi said such career clinics were important to ensure that potential students chose the correct careers and followed their passion.
“We appreciate the input of all the tertiary institutions that are doing their level best in guiding and enlightening their prospective students into their right paths,” Mr Moiketsi said.
For her part, Maun sub-region Principal Education Officer, Ms Mogametsi Kowa appreciated the donation, which she said was also the institutions’ efforts to give back to the community.
Ms Kowa also emphasised the importance of such collaborations in the welfare of the community.
“The tertiary institutions national roadshow has succeeded in providing valuable information and igniting a sense of hope and ambition among the youth of Maun and Shakawe and it will encourage them to reach for the stars and pursue their dreams,” she said.
On one hand, Human Resource Development Council (HRDC)’s planning (supply) Director, Mr Ralecha Mmatli encouraged community members to support students in realising their dreams to make a difference in the country.
Meanwhile, the event saw representatives from various tertiary institutions across the country come together to showcase their programmes and scholarship opportunities to eager attendees.
Interactive booths and informative sessions provided valuable insights into the admission requirements, course offerings as well as career prospects sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among prospective students. Ends
