As part of the company’s wellness programme, Naledi Mining Services has introduced a 12-week Biggest Loser Challenge to promote physical exercise as one of the interventions to fight non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, Naledi Mining Services Safety and Sustainable Development Coordinator Ms Nthabiseng Mmusi said the company was committed to promoting a healthy workforce for good productivity in the workplace.

She noted that through collaboration with various sponsors, they intend to incentivize the challenge as it comes to an end, with wellness day scheduled for June.

As such, the Saturday runs were a culmination of other wellness activities aimed at motivating employees and their families to adopt a holistic healthy living lifestyle.

She noted that in addition to the Saturday Runs, they had an ongoing online fitness programme coordinated by a professional trainer, which was characterised by health checks every four weeks.

“We have the wellness department as our partners, so, at the end of every four weeks, we do weigh-ins, we check the fat content in our bodies and others to see how we are doing.

We also have designated days for strength training through an online fitness programme with a fitness guru who sometimes comes here physically for the programme,” she noted.
For a wider impact, she said the programme was also open to their employees’ family members.

“If your spouse is happy it means you are happy and you will be more productive at work, we do this because we care about the welfare of our employees which affects their performance at work” she noted.

Speaking about the organisation’s wellness programme, she said it was intended to encourage employees to fight the prevalence of NCDs, which were a national concern.

“Naledi Mining Services has a lot of young people and we know that health and productivity go hand in hand, hence this wellness programme.

If you have a healthy workforce then productivity will go up,” she said.  ENDS
