Kuke school library welcome development
10 Mar 2014
Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Johnny Swartz says reading is the foundation upon which success in education is based.
Officially handing over a library at Kuke Primary School in Ghanzi District on March 7, which is adopted by Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL), Mr Swartz said teaching and learning could be successfully delivered through such modes as reading.
He said all subjects in the curriculum could be comprehensively understood by students when they had opportunity to read after class. He further said libraries offered a peaceful place where one could read and study in silence.
Thus, Minister Swartz was hopeful that the library at Kuke school will expand to include ICT, as another mode which brought people closer to the wider world of knowledge.
The library was equipped with books and learning materials from infant to upper stage by Sebilo Books. Mr Swartz said they expected pupils to have full access to the facility so that it played the intended role.
The minster also encouraged teachers to use the library for their own development and enrichment as well as the community, especially the youth to have access to the facility.
That, he said will inspire them to have ownership and a desire to grow the facility further. Minister Swartz applauded BIHL for their goodwill and belief in the positive future of the children; as well as BIHL Trust confidence in choosing Kuke school saying it was a welcome development for the Kuke community.
He said government appreciated the positive partnerships, adding that delivery of services to the people could only be achieved through involvement and contribution of the private sector.
Kuke Primary School is one of the eight across the country that have benefited from the BIHL Trust adoption initiative.
Other beneficiaries include Cwaaneng School in the Southern district, Tshwaragano School in Old Naledi, Chakaloba in Topisi, and Mafetsakgang in Bobonong, Mogobane School in Mogobane, Mathabakwe in Mopipi and Serinane School in Kweneng District. Ends
