Gumare Shakawe to become planning areas
26 Feb 2014
Councillors of the Okavango Sub-District say they are happy that Gumare and Shakawe villages will become planning areas.
Speaking at the sub-council meeting on Tuesday, February 25, the chairperson, Cllr Samson Mauano, said once Gumare and Shakawe become planning areas, the Town and Country Planning Act and its supporting statutes will be implemented.
Cllr Mauano pleaded with the councillors to spread the message to the electorate during meetings scheduled for March. Cllr Botshelo Mapa of Sepopa said the transformation of Gumare and Shakawe into planning areas was good news for the residents because they would use their landed property to get help from financial institutions.
Mr Lesedi Boy, a nominated councillor, said he hoped that once the two villages were planning areas, it would enhance the development of the sub-district.
Other councillors also applauded the new developments in the sub-district such as shelter for mobile health stops at Shaikarawe and Nxhaxana that were built under Ipelegeng.
The shelters have since been handed over to the Ministry of Health. The sub-council meeting also heard that some health posts and clinics at Tubu, Nokaneng, and Nxaunxau were undergoing maintenance through Ipelegeng. ENDS
