Vice President, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe, emphasised the urgent need to improve water delivery systems to support agricultural growth and enhance food security, citing the sector as a priority area in the country’s broader development agenda.
Addressing residents during a kgotla meeting recently in Morula Ward, Gaborone West, Mr Gaolathe, who is also Member of Parliament for Gaborone Bonnington South called on Batswana to remain hopeful and united as the country forged ahead with a new phase of development aimed at building a more inclusive and resilient economy.
He urged citizens to embrace the promise of a brighter future and stay committed to the national vision.
“We must be hopeful of the new Botswana we are building together, a Botswana of opportunity, progress, and shared prosperity,” said Mr Gaolathe, adding it was not the time for despair, but a time for courage, resilience, and commitment to the national vision.
His remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing economic reforms as Botswana intensifies efforts to diversify economy beyond diamond mining.
Mr Gaolathe highlighted that government initiatives aimed to boosting key sectors such as agriculture, technology, and renewable energy, with a particular focus on youth empowerment and job creation.
Acknowledging the country’s current challenges including unemployment, inequality, and corruption, he assured residents that government was actively addressing such issues through policy reforms and inclusive development strategies.
“We are investing in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, and we are working to ensure that no Motswana is left behind,” he said.
Reflecting on Botswana’s history of unity and resilience, Mr Gaolathe encouraged Batswana to draw strength from their shared values and collective spirit. “Together, we will shape Botswana we want, a Botswana that future generations will be proud to call home,” he said. ENDS
