Council welcomes primary healthcare relocation

Tutume District Council has welcomed the relocation of primary health care services from Ministry of Health to the Minsitry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs.
At the welcoming ceremony in Tutume on Thursday, former District Health Management Team Coordinator, now deputy council secretary, primary health care services, Ms Keoratile Ntshabiwa said though they has varying challenges as the health sector, they were committed to serve the community to the best of their ability.
Ms Ntshabiwa said out of 33 clinics in the district, six of them had maternity wings.
She further noted that they had 20 health posts, a youth friendly clinic located at the Tutume hospital and two school clinics at Nata and Tutume McConnel Senior Schools.
She highlighted that out of all their facilities, only two operated as 24-hour services, being Sebina and Nata clinics, noting other facilities across the district operated on normal working hours but would have a nurse on call in cases there was an emergency.
Furthermore, Ms Ntshabiwa noted that they had 12 ambulances and only four were working while others were still awaiting maintenance.
In his welcome remarks, Tutume District Council chairperson, Mr Tabona Masole, said challenges could not be solved at the snap of a figure adding that government was committed to making strides in bringing change, which would benefit all Batswana.
He said as the leadership, they were aware of the challenges and were determined to ensure that they were attended to. ENDS
