The Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa has emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in the formulation of a progressive and inclusive National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).
Speaking during a consultative meeting held in Lobatse with leaders and stakeholders from the southern region on Tuesday, Mr Mohwasa expressed that the participation of all key players, including the private sector and the business community, was crucial for effective policy development.
He highlighted the government's aspirations in creating NDP 12, which focused on essential areas such as job creation, transformation in education and health as well as ensuring dignified housing for citizens.
The minister urged stakeholders to put aside political differences and contribute meaningfully to the plan, ensuring it addressed a wide array of community needs.
Lobatse Town Mayor, Mr Aaron Ganakgomo supported the minister’s views by stating that such consultations were essential for promoting equal and balanced development across regions and called for unified efforts to advance Botswana’s development goals.
National Planning Commission (NPC) acting Commissioner General, Ms Keganele Malikongwa encouraged stakeholders to embrace best practices in research and planning, urging them to chart a new path and embrace innovative approaches in their efforts.
Lobatse MP, Mr Kamal Jacobs raised concerns regarding local issues, including shortage of residential land and the necessity for an additional hospital.
The NPC would continue its consultations with regional leadership across the country and the Transitional NDP has been extended to October 31 to accommodate these discussions, with NDP 12 set to commence on November 1, 2025. ENDS
