President Advocate Duma Boko has promised to donate 3 000 books to Mahupu Unified Secondary School and a further 2 500 to Takatokwane, which will be delivered in August.

This gesture, President said was to encourage learners to read books so as to acquire more knowledge, which they could use to improve their academic performance. Addressing a kgotla meeting in Takatokwane on Monday, he said government was committed to ensuring that every child had access to education.

He also implored the learners to improve their overall academic performance pass rate, which stood at 14.39 per cent for senior secondary school and 18.4 per cent for junior secondary school results in 2024. He said the results were poor but could be improved if
only learners could discipline themselves.

On other matters, President Boko said government would do all possible to fulfill all the promises they made to Batswana. Even though some might take time to fulfill, he said they would deliver as the financial challenges eases.

When addressing some concerns raised by Kgosi Visco Tsiane such as shortage of accommodation for civil servants, the President said the Ministry of Water and Human Settlements intended to build 200 houses across the district.

He said the move would try to address the shortage.He said they would approach financial institutions to help with disbursing loans to Batswana willing to build houses on their land through contracts and lease them to government.

When giving vote of thanks, Member of Parliament for Takatokwane, Mr Jacob Kelebeng said he was thankful for President Boko’s visit saying some of the residents’ concerns had been answered. Mr Kelebeng, who is also Minister of Sport and Art, said government was committed to uplifting the lives of Batswana adding that their needs would be
heeded to.

Mr Kelebeng further said he remained committed to serving them and ensuring that projects which could generate employment opportunities were availed in the constituency. ENDS
