Gaone nominee for gospel awards in Georgia

01 Apr 2025

After more than a decade of dedication to gospel music, Gaone Selebo’s hard work is bearing fruit.

The gospel artist has been nominated for the prestigious Gospel Choice Music Awards in Georgia, USA. Selebo has been recognised in three categories as Best Gospel Promoter of the Year, Virtual Talk Show of the Year, and Radio Announcer of the Year. For her, this achievement represents significant growth and is a testament to God’s grace.

“Being nominated alone is a huge achievement. Even if I don’t win, this is a major milestone,” she shared in an interview.

With a gospel career spanning over 10 years, Selebo reflected on her journey from childhood, when she was a lead singer in her church and Sunday school choir, to the moment she officially stepped into the industry.

“I was the kind of child who always led songs at church and school. I grew up surrounded by music, so much so that after completing my Cambridge studies, I decided to become a backup vocalist for certain artists,” she recalled.

Her breakthrough in the gospel industry came in 2017 with the release of her debut single, “Re Tlaa Thaba,” followed by a music video that earned her a nomination at the Gospel Music Awards of Botswana. She later participated in the Ukhonukamva National Gospel Music Awards (UNGMAs) in Cape Town, where she won Best Gospel Promoter of the Year.

Reflecting on her journey, Selebo admitted that it had been a struggle to record even a single song.

“I faced many spiritual battles. Sometimes it was financial difficulties, other times, it was just endless, senseless obstacles,” she revealed, adding that financial challenges still persist.

Despite these struggles, she remains grateful for her progress. One of her favorite tracks, “Ke A Mo Rata,” is a heartfelt song of gratitude dedicated to God.

“Looking back, I can see God’s love and how He pulled me through all my battles. In the beginning, it was difficult to book interviews or secure gigs, but now, by the grace of God, here I am."

Offering words of encouragement to upcoming artists, Selebo urged them to remain patient and resilient.

"Rome was not built in a day. Patience and putting God first are key," she advised.

The Gospel Choice Music Awards will take place on June 26, following a voting period that ends on May 29. The Top 10 finalists will be selected before a final round of voting concludes on the day of the awards. ENDS
