Prepare yourself for retirement-Motube

30 Mar 2025

Planning for retirement well in advance allows one to continue living comfortably post-employment.

But that does not just happen, it takes financial discipline.

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Dipheko Motube said during the Sedibeng Foundation Centre Wellness Day for the Elderly on Thursday. The recently retired took the attendants through his journey of work as a police officer and how he prepared for retirement.

He said the theme: A Journey to Happy Active Aging with Purpose and Fulfilment, was befitting as it encouraged retirees to enjoy life and live a purposeful and fulfilledretirement.

Mr Motube said in his 41 years of service, he learnt a lot about life and had to reassess his character in order to fulfil dreams.

He said he embraced retirement because he prepared himself 10 years prior, and learnt from those who retired before him.

People should look forward to retiring because they would have time to focus on self and the future that lies ahead, Mr Motube said.

He set strict targets that he aimed to achieve and that meant doing away with over spending, investing money and adopting clean eating habits.

Mr Motube said one should desire to create wealth for when they retire, so that nothing changed post-employment.

He said reaching 60 years should not scare anyone as there was still a lot that 60 year-olds could offer.

Many people have done a lot during their old age and many continue to do so, Mr Motube said and encouraged young people to care for the elders.

He applauded Sedibeng Foundation Centre for taking care of the elderly people in Kopong and announced that he would join in as a member, so that he could contribute with caring for the elders.

Sedibeng Foundation Centre board chairperson, Ms Lillan Mogapi said they were happy to contribute to the health and welfare of the elderly.

She said the centre provided health care services to the elderly through doctors who come to visit and recommend further consultation and assistance after running tests such as eye, ear, BP and other ailment, adding that their desire was to see them happy all the time since some needed attention and care which they did not receive at their homes.

Ms Maggie Lesotho aged 80 had nothing but praises to Princess Marina Hospital who restored her hearing.

She said she went to church following that and was able to hear the preacher’s teaching.

Mr Morotsi Kelefeng , 75, said with the help of physiotherapy, his body aches and pains were gone and could now walk with ease. ENDS
