Hunyepa praises Kgolagano College for contributions to nation building
30 Mar 2025
Kgolagano College, which offers training in Theology on Friday, celebrated 50 years of existence and honoured its 2024 graduates.
Officiating at the event, Assistant Minister of Basic Education and Child welfare, Mr Justin Hunyepa hailed the school as a veteran educational institution which should be a college university by now. He encouraged the college to continue contributing to building a legacy for the country, which the next generation would be proud of and able to build upon.
“Let us commit to changing and rebuilding our nation by serving others with sincerity, respect and love,” said Mr Hunyepa adding that the 2024 general election should not be seen as just a shift in government but as a transformation in peoples attitudes, work ethic and perceptions. He said institutions should be renewed and strengthened to lay the foundation for a brighter future.
Mr Hunyepa said in the new dispensation, government wanted a l public service that would serve without partisan consideration and unnecessary red tapes.
Government intended to turn things around so that government offices, parastatals and the private sector prioritise service to the people rather than their own interests, Mr Hunyepa said.
He also said government recognised institutions like Kgolagano, which played a critical role in building a healthy, inclusive and educated nation hence commended the college for developing a Certificate of Theology course in Setswana that was in the process of being registered and accredited.
He urged and hoped that the college would introduce academic programmes in other languages such as Kalanga, Sesarwa, Seyei and others, to contribute to building and weaving an inclusive nation.
Furthermore, Mr Hunyepa encouraged the college to take interest in the aspect of human rights culture, which was President Advocate Duma Boko’s vision in building the nation.
“You have access to your Holy texts, such as the Bible and other theological texts which you can use in conceptualising these human rights,” he said reminding that the Bible was full of such texts,” he said.
Meanwhile, Reverend Mpho Moruakgomo said Botswana was built on values and ethics shaped by Christianity therefore, it was important for the nation to look unto the Lord in the midst of social ills ravaging the nation. Rev. Moruakgomo proposed a partnership with government, to help in addressing social ills.
Kgolagano College honoured students in Certificate of Competence in Preaching, Certificate in Theology, Diploma in Practical Ministry, as well as Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Theology. ENDS
