Radio programme strives to improve service

The launch of the revamped #Excellence radio programme represents a strong commitment to transparency and public engagement in government affairs, says Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa.
Speaking at the launch in Gaborone on Thursday, the minister explained that the show, initiated by the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM), would air on Duma FM every Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM starting next month.
Its goal is to transform how citizens interact with public service providers.
“This is not just another radio programme, it is a platform that embodies our commitment to excellence, productivity and continuous improvement,” said Mr Mohwasa.
He elaborated on the show’s dual purpose which is to inform citizens about public service processes and to provide a real-time feedback channel.
In a democracy like Botswana, feedback is critical for government effectiveness and ensuring that citizens' voices are heard, he added. Thus, the #Excellence radio programme aims to be a vital tool for fostering transparent dialogue between public administration and the community.
“Today marks a significant step towards a more productive, responsive and accountable public service,” Mr Mohwasa said.
He remained optimistic that the broadcast would invigorate public servants, encouraging them to uphold high standards of professionalism in their service to the public.
The minister stressed the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, highlighting support from organisations such as the Botswana Public Officers Medical Aids Scheme (BPOMAS) and Assure Wealth.
Mr Mohwasa said that businesses and organisations were not solely focused on profitability as they also care about the nation’s well-being and development, acknowledging the financial backing provided by Assure Wealth since the programme’s inception in May 2023. He stressed that such partnerships were crucial for the sustainability and success of public service initiatives like #Excellence.
As the programme aims to inspire public officers, the minister urged them to view it as an opportunity for growth and self-reflection, embracing the challenges that come with the pursuit of excellence. He also called on private sector partners to continue their essential contributions to public service reform.
Mr Mohwasa expressed confidence that the #Excellence programme would catalyse transformation within the public service, calling the launch a beacon of hope for dynamic and effective governance.
Assure Wealth managing director, Mr Vincent Morewang described the program as a game changer, fostering dialogue for excellent service delivery while serving as an efficient feedback collection tool. His organisation, he said, supported the mission to empower public service for outstanding service delivery, also providing financial literacy to public servants to enhance their understanding of wealth creation.
BPOMAS chief executive officer, Mr Thulaganyo Molebatsi said that the programme would bridge the gap between information deficits and challenges, encouraging knowledge sharing and empowerment. He argued that such an engaging platform would lead to an informed nation, ultimately positioning the country as a beacon of excellence.
Mr Molebatsi added that as stakeholders, they extended their services beyond public servants and their dependents but to also catered for family members and retirees. ENDS
