Collaboration among all relevant stakeholders is critical in guideing government on what should be prioritised to tackle urgent urban and national developmental needs and challenges.
Selibe Phikwe mayor Mr Oageng Makgosa said on Monday during a district conference to discuss NDP12 and UDP 5 priorities and discuss issues affecting Selibe Phikwe Town Council.
He said stakeholders participation played critical role in the success of both NDP 12 and the thematic aspects of UDP 5 for the creation of a resilient and vibrant urban environment for the growing population of Selibe Phikwe.
“True progress cannot be achieved in isolation, therefore, the inclusion of all stakeholders is critical so that there will be proper alignment between issues at the district and national key policies. We are all aware that government has promised to transform the country, therefore it is imperative to make relevant contributions towards the success of the intended changes,” he said.
For his part, Mr Kamogelo Jacoba from the business community appreciated efforts by the mayor on inclusivity, adding that a collective vision would lead to sustainability within the Selibe Phikwe township.
He further called on council officials to create business policies easy to relate to, saying some current policies were complicated and discouraged efforts of many who wished to try their luck in vending and other businesses.
Senior district officer (Development) from Office of District Commissioner, Mr Abedinico Mmereki said key issues for UDP5 were for human and social development, sustainable development, governance, and peace and environmental health.
The purpose of the conference was to find ways to identify urban prevailing issues and find ways to tackle them under UDP 5. ENDS
