Initiative to raise funds for children shelter

Boteti District Council has introduced a council chairperson’s fund initiative aimed at raising funds towards the establishment of children’s shelter.
Speaking during council session on Monday, the council chairman Mr Onkhuparetse Monnaatsie said a lot of children were roaming the streets especially in Letlhakane.
He challenged the district’s partners and stakeholders to join hands and work toward the success of the initiative.
Meanwhile, the District Officer- Development, Ms Keitumetse Kewagamang told the meeting that in terms of social protection nets all beneficiaries were assisted with necessary social safety nets.
Ms Kewagamang said all 116 reception pupils, both needy and orphans were assisted with school uniforms whilst 2 159 primary school leaners and 676 secondary school pupils were also assisted with toiletries, uniforms and transport.
She also added that 674 Remote Area Dweller pupils (RADS) were assisted with toiletries, uniforms and transport whilst 22 students were under Department of Tertiary Education Fund.
As for malnutrition rate in the district she said, from October to December 2024 they recorded a 5.83 per cent against a target of 3.2 per cent. Ms Kewagamang indicated that in an effort to mitigate the high rate of malnutrition, special food baskets were administered in hotspots areas and and direct feeding was done at Buuhe ward in Letlhakane and Mmatshumo village.
Vulnerable group feeding programme, she said, targeted all children aged from16-18 months, three to four years and five to six years.
She noted that food distribution at health facilities scored 78 per cent due to unavailability of some food commodities. ENDS
