Sponsor spurs golden grand prix

The P1 million cash injection courtesy of Orange Botswana is expected to help in the successful hosting of the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix.
Slated for April 12 at the National Stadium, the event is expected to attract top athletes from across the world and its spokesperson, Calistus Kolantsho expressed gratitude to Orange Botswana for its continued support as they also did in the last edition that was held in 2023.
“Hosting FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix is expensive. To bring the caliber of athletes that we wish to bring requires a lot of money. We have to pay for their flights, accommodation and anything that they might need,” he said.
Kolantsho said they would also be catering for officials that would be coming to Botswana on World Athletics assignment and that too meant money. He said they were courting other companies to partner with them. As to who will be competing during the event, Kolantsho said the information would be revealed soon.
Meanwhile, a press release from Orange Botswana indicates that with the company financial backing, the event will deliver seamless logistics, world-class facilities, and a premium experience for both athletes and spectators.
It further says the sponsorship will ensure a top-tier technical support, improved infrastructure, and enhanced event coverage, solidifying Botswana’s position as a go-to destination for elite athletics. Beyond sport, the release says, the Grand Prix also serves as a major economic driver, attracting international visitors, sports media and corporate investors.
“Orange Botswana also encouraged the general public to attend the event in large numbers to support the athletes and contribute to the event’s growth,” says the release. ENDS
