Gaolathe visits Belgium

The Vice President, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe is on a high-level working visit to Brussels, Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, which started on Sunday until Thursday.
The visit, according to a press release from Office of the President, demonstrates Botswana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and forging new alliances, and highlights the country’s aspiration to be a strategic player in global trade, investment and sustainable development.
During the visit, the release says, Mr Gaolathe will hold strategic engagements with key government officials, influential policymakers and esteemed global investors in both Belgium and Luxemburg.
The discussions, as per the release, also aim to deepen existing ties, explore innovative collaboration opportunities and unlock sustainable pathways for mutual growth and development.
The release also states that while in Belgium, the Vice President will hold highlevel meetings with High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, Ms Kaja Kallas as well as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of Belgium, Mr Jan Jambon.
“These engagements will serve as a crucial platform for invigorating relations between Botswana, the European Union and Belgium, paving the way for enriched diplomatic ties and robust economic engagements that reflect shared aspirations for both countries,” adds the release.
From Belgium, Mr Gaolathe will travel to Luxemburg, where he will hold discussions with Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Xavier Bettel and Minister of Finance, Mr Gilles Roth, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and aligning the priorities of both nations in the financial services sector.
Furthermore, the Vice President will hold talks with senior officials from the European Investment Bank and the Sovereign Wealth Fund to deliberate on sustainable finance initiatives and funding avenues for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as crucial infrastructure development.
“These high-level strategic engagements are destined to unlock promising opportunities for expanded bilateral relations with Botswana and Luxembourg fostering an ecosystem that benefits both nations economically and politically,” says the release. ENDS
