Minister to further consult on access roads
16 Mar 2025
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Noah Salakae, says one of the government’s priorities is to modernise roads infrastructure and improve community movement.
The minister said this on Friday, during a courtesy visit and tour of Gasegwagwa and Diabo access roads in Kanye West constituency.
The access roads connect their respective dikgotla to Mmathethe-Kanye road (B202), which is currently being overlayed.
Mr Salakae reiterated that he saw it fit to tour constituency roads after the area MP, Mr Victor Phologolo, raised concerns about the condition of Gasegwagwa road which was in a bad state.
The road’s stretch is 2km beyond the 10km radius which has been set by the revised policy on access roads maintenance which stipulates that only access roads under 10km would be maintained with bitumen up to the main kgotla.
After appreciating the road condition, minister Salakae promised to consult with cabinet and to assess whether a waiver could not be made on the policy, particularly for access roads beyond the 10km radius.
In his remarks, Mr Phologolo extended gratitude to Mr Salakae for acting on the residents’ grievances, reiterating his call for the Gasegwagwa road to be improved to a bitumen status, adding that it was an access road to an agricultural production zone. ENDS
