Search for missing Kachikau woman on
10 Mar 2025
Kachikau Police in collaboration with the community are searching for a 64-year-old woman who has been missing since March 4.
In an interview during the search on Saturday, Kachikau police acting station commander Senior Superintendent Sidney Mogajane stated that the woman’s children reported her missing on Wednesday morning after she did not come back home the previous night.
He said a search was launched on Wednesday afternoon at Mmakgabo ward where she was last seen by residents of the ward around 6pm.
Senior Superintendent Mogajane said since last Thursday, the search expanded to a 15km radius from where she was last seen.
He said the community came in large numbers alongside armed police officers for the search, traversing the thick bushes and wildlife infested forest.
He indicated that due to thick vegetation, the search crew could not expand the search far-off into the national park as this could pose a danger.
He said the forest was packed with wildlife, which could easily ambush people as the thick bushes obstructed the ability to spot animals from a distance.
“We are in a wildlife territory, which prompts us to search in groups and stay closer to one another in case danger occurs so that we shield one another,” he said.
He stated that they were awaiting a police helicopter to reinforce the search by providing aerial surveillance.
He said the helicopter could not arrive on Saturday due to the rains in Francistown and other parts of the route to Chobe. ENDS
