BOPEU hands over food hampers

 The Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) has donated food hampers to members residing in Kgatleng District who were affected by floods that occurred last month.
The donation was handed over by BOPEU second deputy president, Ms Sethunya Ruda in Mochudi on Tuesday.
She said the gesture was meant to assist members since they lost most of their property as a result of the floods.
It is social responsibility commitment to our members, Ms Ruda who oversee the Gender and Human Rights portfolio said.
She said the union would go beyond their normal cause of member representation, and act on their social responsibility roles and the values that guided them.
Ms Ruda was hopeful that with the pyscho social support the victims were receiving, things would improve.
Kgatleng District commissioner, Ms Kolobetso Sejakgomo commeded BOPEU for the noble work they were doing which demonstrated the humility that resided in many.
She said the donation gave members hope that they were not alone.
Ms Sejakgomo said they had received many donations from good Samaritans who wanted to help the victims.
The district commissioner stated that Botswana Teachers Union visited Linchwe II Junior Secondary school where they donated to their members
Linchwe II Junior Secondary school matron for students with disabilities, Ms Bogadi Ntshole appreciated the help and said food, furniture and other items were destroyed by the floods.
She said she had to act quickly to move learners to safety with the help of the school head.
Ms Ntshole said they were now housed elsewhere as their recidences were greatly affected by the floods.
BOPEU Mochudi Branch chairperson, Ms Boineelo Pheloetsile said the union stood with their members during difficult times. ENDS
