Sibanda inspiring journey to success

09 Mar 2025

“There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” And, RB2’s Woman of the Year, Ms Anastacia Sibanda, believed she could, and she did,  by embodying the spirit of resilience and ambition.

Ms Sibanda, who began her career as a cleaner at the Department of Information Services in 2002, has emerged as a leading figure in journalism.

Sharing her inspiring journey during RB2’s International Women’s Day commemoration, she credited her success to a robust support system, particularly from her supervisors, Ms Motlalepula Mokgadi and Ms Thelma Khunwane.

From early days at work, Ms Sibanda was determined to become a journalist. While working as a cleaner, she earned her certificate in community journalism from UNISA.

Her eagerness for knowledge  propelled her to the University of Botswana, where she obtained a Degree in Media Studies, excelling along the way. At  the apex of her academics qualifications is  a Master’s in Business Administration-International Business, which she obtained through BOCODOL.

Currently, Ms Sibanda serves as a senior news reporter with the Daily News and co-hosts The Sports Court on RB2, boasting several accolades for her contributions to sports journalism.

“It’s crucial that we celebrate women,” stated Ms Maipelo Mophuting, Assistant Minister for the State President, during the event.

She emphasised that women were heroes who deserved honour and recognition for their contributions across various fields.

Celebrated under the theme: Accelerate Action, RB2 joined the global community in acknowledging women’s achievements while urging for gender equality in all aspects of life.

“There is nothing that we cannot do as women as long as we put the fear of the Lord ahead,” Assistant Minister Mophuting asserted, highlighting the vital role women played in holding families together.

Woolworths Country General Manager, Ms Gorata Abotseng-Lekau, encouraged women to harness their God-given talents.

“Women are change agents by nature,” she said, urging them to claim their space and act with purpose. “Go and live your purpose because that is how you accelerate action; not by sitting at home or waiting for favors.”

RB2 Station Manager, Ms Mosetsanagape Maribe, said Sibanda was chosen as the station’s  woman of the year, having reflected on her journey to becoming an influential news reporter.

“We celebrate this day every year, recognising a remarkable woman colleague,” Maribe said.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, the stories of women like Ms Sibanda continue to inspire and empower future generations, illuminating the endless possibilities that lie ahead. ENDS
