Teachers needs to strive to deliver quality education at all costs, says Francistown East MP, Mr Tiroeaone Ntsima.

He said this when addressing Setlalekgosi Junior Secondary School leadership and management in Francistown recently. Mr Ntsima applauded the school for its academic excellence despite all the challenges it faces.

Furthermore, he said that sport was being revived in schools and the government would find means of making sure sporting fields and codes were in a good state before commencement. He also said stakeholders should work together and find instant solutions to resolve challenges they might  be  facing.

Earlier on when delivering his welcome remarks, the school head, Mr Terrence Seitiso said the school has been at the top of the region for four consecutive years and for the four years, it also featured in the country’s Top 10, a milestone he said was  worth celebrating.

He added that shortage of classrooms was a challenge as some students use the dining hall as classrooms. Also, he said that shortage of teaching staff also limited teaching and led to high teacher-learner ratioo. The teachers’ representative, Mr Brian Bakaya said the playing fields were in a bad state and it was difficult to teach Physical Education subject in such environment.

He added that infrastructure in the school was also in a bad state as most of the classrooms and staff houses have not been maintaned , requesting MP to assist with finding funds for such major maintenances. Mr Bakaya also complained that lack of promotions amongst staff demoralised teachers.

“Our results are very impressive yet we are not getting any promotions as a form of motivation and it is discouraging”, he said.

Mr Bakaya further said that the teaching profession is a very difficult one as elevation takes time yet results are expected and teachers deliver such results without fail. He asked the minister to assist in making sure that a conducive environment for teaching was created and achieved. ENDS
