In response to the natural disaster that hit the country in the past weeks, leaving many families displaced, Ghanzi Trans Cash and Carry has donated food hampers worth P10 000 to Ghanzi district disaster committee.

Speaking during the handing over recently, Ghanzi Area Manager, Mr Lazarous Lekgoanyana explained that through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, they were committed to reaching out to the less privileged communities more especially in communities they operated in.

Mr Lekgoanyana said they had adopted 16 schools across the country while in Ghanzi they had adopted 42 pupils at Gantsi Primary School. He said they supported the schools with any social and welfare necessities as well as educational packages.

Mr Lekgoanyana said they extended the helping hand as a collaborative team from the three Trans Cash and Carry Ghanzi based outlets being Travis Cash and Carry, GFS and Liquor store. Furthermore, he said the company had also donated food hampers to the national relief committee worth P100 000 that would also be donated to other victims in other parts of the country.

For her part, Ghanzi District Disaster Committee secretary, Dr Boitumelo Molefane applauded the donors for their benevolence. She said the donations would go a long way in assisting the affected families. She said over 300 families were affected, translating to a total of about 1500 people who needed assistance following the recent floods.

Dr Molefane said it was not easy to feed them because during that time, their budget accommodated only 500 people. However, she said through support from local business communities, they managed to cover a larger number with needed amenities.

"These donations, means a lot, and they are going to make a great difference in their lives" she commended.

Deputy court president, Ms Tiego Laletsang also applauded the donors for reaching out to the affected communities, saying it would uplift their livelihoods. She encouraged the communities to support the retailers so that they could reach more communities with their donations. ENDS
