Water supply infrastructure challenge
25 Feb 2025
Tonota faces water supply challenge due to limited capacity of the water supply infrastructure, which has surpassed its design layout, Assistant Minister of Water and Sanitation Mr Motsamai Motsamai has said. Responding to a question in Parliament, he said they would in the long term implement Tonota Village Water Distribution Network infrastructure Upgrade project which entails upgrading of pump station and construction of a dedicated line to supply areas experiencing water shortages. He said the tender for the project had been evaluated but could not be awarded due to budgetary constraints. Mr Motsamai said the rehabilitation of Tonota network has been proposed to be included in the National Development Plan (NDP)12. He said in the short term, there was a daily bowsing into the two 10 000 liters water tanks installed and connected into the reticulation network to boost supply volumes and pressures. The assistant minister said there was also daily bowsing to reach areas with low pressure or no water supply where community members fetched water. Tonota MP Sedombo had asked the minister if he was aware of the water shortage in Tonota constituency, especially in Mhakamme, Leloto and Lephane wards. He also wanted to know if there were any plans to rectify the matter and the minister to provide timelines. ENDS
