Ministry of Water and Human Settlement employees have been implored to unite in the interest of good service delivery.
Addressing employees of Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC), Water and Sanitation and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) recently, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi appreciated challenges employees faced among them shortage of resources but said through them work, productivity could be enhanced.
He encouraged them to deploy the limited resources at their disposal do deliver on their mandate.
“It is critical to understand the vision of the ministry and the new administration. Our vision as a ministry is to be the best and that means excelling in whatever we do with the little resources we have,” he added.
Mr Ramogapi encouraged employees to adhere to set service standards adding that it was disturbing to learn that WUC employees took long to attend to water leakages despite the three-day set standard.
Employees were told to attend to leakages within 24 hours, to avoid water wastage. “We should be seen excelling in our daily duties, serve the community with respect, Botho and sober minds,” said Mr Ramogapi.
They were also encouraged to adhere to the highest standards of diligence and efficiency as a matter of pride and national duty when serving the nation.
Mr Ramogapi said supervisors should introduce incentives, to motivate employees because a motivated workforce was more productive, happier and committed to the vision of the organisation.
Employees appreciated the minister’s visit saying it would boost their morale.
Mr Tshomarelo Kopano said they had high hopes on the new administration and agreed with the minister’s idea that incentives could improve productivity.
Mr Gaofenngwe Selabe requested that where possible, married people be placed closer to their families as that could also serve as a motivation.
BHC chief executive officer, Mr Nkaelang Matenge assured the minister that they would work as a team to address the challenges they faced and use resources at their disposal to improve service delivery. ENDS
