BERA urges fuel consumers to be vigilant

23 Feb 2025

The Botswana Energy Regulation Authority (BERA) urges consumers to be more vigilant and to keep their proof of purchase after fuelling, and that should they experience any challenges they should contact the retail service station for remedy.

A statement from BERA says although retail service stations were designed to operate normally even during rains, the risk of water seeping into fuel tanks, especially those underground was high due to ongoing heavy rains and flooding in some areas.

The statement says that consumers who have exhausted the retail service station’s complaints resolution process and are still aggrieved, can lodge their complaints with BERA.

It also says BERA has advised retail service station operators to increase the frequency of their fuel quality monitoring, commonly known as water dips.

It adds that it was advisable that water dips were not only conducted at the beginning of the shifts but throughout the day with more frequent intervals since the rains were continuously pouring. ENDS
