The Member of Parliament for Francistown West and Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Mr Ignatius Moswaane today visited areas in Francistown affected by yesterday's flooding.
He began at Ngilish village where homeowner, Mr Austin Mbakile reported damage to his property, estimating the cost of replacing bedding and furniture at half a million Pula.
Mr Moswaane also learnt that three of Mbakile's tenants, employed at the Oil Botswana multi-petroleum storage in Dumelang, were evacuated to temporary housing in the town centre.
The MP also visited a poultry farm belonging to Ms Masego Pule on the banks of Ntshe River, where over 2 000 broiler chickens were killed by flooding.
He then went to Dothodzo Funeral Parlour, also near Ntshe River, where rising floodwaters forced the evacuation of a corpse to another mortuary.
His final stop was Phathogo Primary School in Monarch, where 41 individuals from different families were evacuated to the school's facilities.
Mr Moswaane conveyed his sympathy to those affected, promising assistance after a thorough assessment of the damage. He urged residents to trust in God during this difficult time. ENDS
