Dibete - Otse road in budget provision

18 Feb 2025

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is fully committed to delivering infrastructure projects aligned with the Umbrella for Democratic Change’s accelerated infrastructure development plan as noted in their manifesto.

When answering a question in Parliament yesterday, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Noah Salakae said with reference to paragraph 186 of the Budget Speech, it was worth noting that the Dibete-Otse road had been included in the budget provision.

He said the project entailed design and construction of the 87 kilometres road from Dibete to Otse at an estimated cost of P750 million.

The minister said stage 1 (inception and pre-feasibility) of the project started in June 2024 and was completed in July 2024, adding that the project was assessed and granted approval to proceed to the next stage of implementation being stage 2 (concept development and viability/feasibility).

Mr Salakae further said currently the project was at stage 2 and all the site or field studies such as geotechnical investigations, topographical/cadastral survey, and hydrological studies were on-going.

He said these activities would be followed by preliminary designs and the costing of the project. He added that all these works started in July 2024 and were scheduled to be completed in March 2025.

Mr Salakae emphasised that the ministry had taken an initiative to embark on a country-wide tour of national roads to assess their conditions.

The minister was answering a question asked by Shoshong  MP, Mr Moneedi Bagaisamang who asked the minister of Transport and Infrastructure to apprise the honourable house on the construction of Dibete-Otse road. ENDS
