Three health facilities not connected to grid
18 Feb 2025
There are three health facilities in Okavango West with no access to the national electricity grid.
Responding to a question in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Health Dr Stephen Modise said these were Nxauxau, Gani and Chukumuchu health posts.
He said to ensure consistent power provision in these locations, off-grid solutions such as solar mini-grids and standalone home systems was implemented.
Dr Modise said Chukumuchu Health Post was currently connected to the solar plant at the local primary school while Gani and Nxauxau health posts utilised solar systems to provide necessary electricity for their operations.
The minister said once Botswana Power Cooperation grid was extended to these villages, the ministry would facilitate their connection to the grid.
Okavango West MP, Mr Kenny Kapinga had asked Minister of Health to inform Parliament about the number of health facilities in the Okavango West Constituency with no access to the national electricity grid and how they were facilitated to perform tasks that required electrical power. ENDS
