Peaceful valentine in Francistown

16 Feb 2025

Francistown and surrounding areas enjoyed a relatively peaceful Valentine’s Day, with most police stations reporting no significant incidents of gender-based violence.

Kutlwano Police Station reported a single case involving a man who assaulted his girlfriend around 2am.

Station commander Superintendent Alice Oabile confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was hospitalised in stable condition and the suspect was in custody assisting with the investigation.

Superintendent Oabile noted that despite expectations of increased GBV due to Valentine’s Day often being associated with infidelity, the day remained calm, with many celebrating indoors.

This peaceful atmosphere was echoed by other area commanders.

Superintendent Emily Kula of Gerald Police Station attributed the calmness to strong community-police cooperation.

Superintendents Moore Motsokono (Tonota) and Boipuso Baatweng (Tatitown) also reported peaceful celebrations throughout their jurisdictions. ENDS
