In an endeavour to improve efficiency and safe workplace, Wilderness Safaris conducted a six day course in Maun to upskill housekeepers from various hospitality companies in the region.
The initiative provided invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure that housekeepers in the hospitality industry were well equipped to meet the demands of their roles.
In an interview, a trainer with Wilderness Safaris, Mr Molebeledi Goitsemang said the training encompassed improving the overall quality of housekeeping service, fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism, and equipping housekeepers with tools and confidence needed to handle increased workload and diverse guest expectations during a busy season.
“By investing in the development of our housekeeping staff, we aim to enhance guests experiences by ensuring that our staff is well-equipped to meet the demands of a high-volume hospitality environment thus upholding our country’s reputation for outstanding service,” he said.
He further said the training covered advanced cleaning techniques, efficient time management, and importance of attention to detail in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and guest satisfaction.
Mr Goitsemang said they were trained on effective communication, teamwork, and customer service, emphasising the significance of creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
External trainer from ZoneTech Mr Onkemetse Mosweu said training on chemicals usage gave housekeepers an understanding on how to effectively use and handle chemicals in their workplaces.
“We have realised that most house keepers are lacking behind when it comes to protecting themselves from chemicals, they handle them anyhow despite the negative they posed on their health. Understanding the proper use and handling of cleaning chemicals is crucial for maintaining a safe and healthy environment and it is housekeepers that play a vital role in preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of both themselves and their residents,” said Mosweu.
He highlighted the necessity of the hospitality industry to educate their workers for them to be confident and competent.
“Some of the housekeepers do not use personal protective equipment when handling cleaning chemicals because they have not been sensitised on the dangers of such practice,” he added.
One of the participants, a housekeeper at Wilderness Safaris Ms Ketshidile Moyevu appreciated the company efforts.
“I learned so much in just a few days, the training opened my eyes on the importance of using the right products and techniques and I feel more prepared to provide exceptional service to our guests,” she said.
Another participant, a housekeeper at Chitabe Camp, Ms Boitshepile Gabaitsekgosi said the training session served as a reminder on the importance of continuous professional development in their respective fields to be positioned to deliver exceptional service, ensuring that guests leave with unforgettable memories of their time in Botswana.
For her part, housekeeper at Mokete Camp, Ms Sulphy Bayei encouraged others to invest in training saying it placed them at an advantage to know current trends and meet the demands of modern travelers. ENDS
