A press release from the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) has informed members of the public about an unfortunate incident in which a soldier stationed at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks (SSKB) was fatally overrun by a Mobile Gun System.

According to the release, the accident happened on Friday at SSKB.

The deceased soldier was among the gun crew that were preparing the guns for a scheduled training programme as part of force readiness. Investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

“While the BDF conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the people of the Republic of Botswana, it withholds the names of the deceased to allow the family the space to privately mourn during this difficult time. May the soul of the deceased member rest in eternal peace,” said the release. ENDS
