A total of three public campsites were advertised and awarded to local companies at Linyanti, Savuti and Ihaha in 2008 in an endeavour to promote local economic empowerment and economic divesification.

Answering a question in Parliament, the Minister of Environment and Tourism,Mr Wynter Mmolotsi noted that the campsites at Linyanti and Savuti were awarded to Savuti Khwai Linyanti Group (Pty) Ltd while the one at Ihaha was awarded to IT Comms T/A Kwalate.

He said the duration of the lease agreements for the operation of the campsites was five years, with an option for renewal.

He further noted that the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture has started the renewal of the lease agreements and the leases for Linyanti and Savuti campsites were renewed for 15 years in 2024.

Chobe MP, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga has asked the minister when last the public campsites at Chobe National Park were advertised and also state which companies were awarded the tender as well as the duration of the lease agreements. ENDS
