Semitwe clinic design at final stage
16 Feb 2025
The upgrading of Semitwe Clinic initially planned under the National Development Plan (NDP) 11, but halted due to budgetary constraints, will be done through the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) 2023-20215 with a P30 million budget.
Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Lawrence Ookeditse said while his ministry and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure were finalising designs before moving to the construction stage, the health services were provided from a house donated by the Village Development Committee (VDC).
He said the ministry had secured funding through the TNDP towards the construction of seven staff houses.
He said as at February 7, progress for the construction of staff houses was 65 per cent against a targeted 70 per cent, and the project was scheduled for completion by April 5.
Mr Ookeditse noted that due to financial constraints, Makuta clinic could neither be implemented under the NDP 11 nor be accommodated in the TNDP.
He said while the project would be considered for future implementation, owing to funds availability, health services were being provided in a porta cabin managed by the Ministry of Health as an interim plan.
He was responding to MP for Nkange, Mr Motlhaleemang Moalosi who asked about the progress in the construction and upgrading of health posts and clinics without maternity wards in Semitwe, Makuta and Magapatona villages as per the NDP 11, as well as plans to complete the projects. ENDS
