Setsile injury time leveler preserves Galaxy unbeaten run

13 Feb 2025

Jwaneng Galaxy rallied from a goal down through an injury time equaliser by Thero Setsile to maintain their 19 games unbeaten run in the FNB Premiership with a 1-1 draw against Mochudi Center Chiefs yesterday afternoon.

After dominating the first half, the defending champions fell behind when Chiefs substitute Razeen Bennett finished off a good move in the 83rd-minute.

However, Magosi dropped their lines after taking the lead, and Setsile slotted home the equaliser in the dying moments from inside the penalty area after an equally impressive move to rescue a point for Galaxy and rescue them from the claws of what would have been their first defeat of the season.

Despite a tough and highly technical battle at Dinaledi Football Academy Stadium, Galaxy were the better of the two teams. They dominated the midfield through seasoned campaigners Gilbert Baruti and Gift Moyo who dictated terms against Thabo Wetshoemang and Keitumetse ‘Black Ball’ Samunzala.

Chiefs, still unbeaten in four league matches under new head coach and club legend Pontsho Moloi, suffered an injury blow in the 69th-minute to their first choice goalkeeper Tumisang Selolwane, who was replaced by Moraka Tauyatswala.

Selolwane had been instrumental as the Magosi defence marshalled by Thami Zulu and Kennedy Amutenya kept six clean sheets in the matches leading to the Galaxy encounter.

The Kgatleng giants however had themselves to blame for conceding late as they dropped deep in their defence which allowed their opponents open spaces in the attacking third.

While Galaxy remains the only unbeaten team in the league thus far, they are only in third place on the log with their progress stalled by the highest number of draws.

Meanwhile, in other midweek fixtures a stoppage time winner by Thatayaone Ramatlapeng was the difference as Township Rollers defeated BDF XI 1-0 to give Rollers a two points lead at the summit of the FNB Premiership.

Tafic  kept their  title  hopes  alive  with  a 1-0  victory over VTM  through a  Martin  Daka  strike, while Extension  Gunners  moved to  a  safer  position 12  after  defeating  Security  Systems  2-1 with  Ofentse  Nato  and  Letsile  Montsho  on the  score sheet  for  Gunners.

At Sowa  Town  Council  Stadium,  Gaborone United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sua Flamingoes and dropped  to  fourth  spot  on the  log  standings.

The Reds opened the scoring in the 16th-minute with a header by Thabo Maponda only  for the home side to level matters three minutes later through an own goal by Tatenda Gora. Bame Morwalela sealed victory in the 36th-minute which propelled Flamingoes to position five with 34 points. ENDS
