In an effort to create employment, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism is set to establish a green plant in Kgalagadi.
Speaking during the Tshole Trust Awareness Run yesterday in Francistown, Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said the green plant will create green jobs, thus reducing the unemployment rate across the country.
"We appeal to industry players, civil societies, experts and individuals to partner with us in the delivery of our priorities and the creation of sustainable green jobs,” he added.
Furthermore, Mr Mmolotsi who is also Member of Parliament for Francistown South thanked Tshole Trust for their commendable actions in the management of used oil and raising awareness concerning the same.
He said government had developed the Integrated Waste Management Policy of 2021 which advocated for deriving value out of waste and creating opportunities for job creation.
In addition, Mr Mmolotsi said the theme for Tshole Trust Awareness Run which is :Give Used Oil a Second Life, Recycle it, aligned well with government policy on waste management and the National Vision 2036 pillar on sustainable environment, which spoke to converting waste into a valuable resource.
On the other hand, he also encouraged people to turn Botswana into a tourist destination of choice.
Vice President for Tshole Trust, Mr Kevin Moipolai applauded all the stakeholders present for ensuring that the event was a success, and that the message on waste conservation was spread.
He also said war on environment conservation started with those who own machinery and motor vehicles as they use oil which often spilled to the ground.
Mr Moipolai went on to further encourage people to handle oils with care and to also adopt means of proper disposal. ENDS
