Residents appeal for increased pre-school intake
04 Feb 2025
Residents of Tshweneng and Ledumang wards in Gaborone have called for an increase of pupils intake, particularly for lower grades, as they face difficulties in enrolling their children.
During a kgotla meeting yesterday addressed by MP for Gaborone North, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile, one of the residents, Ms Gaopalelwe Ramotlhakola, emphasised the need to expand learning spaces, especially for pre-schoolers, as many parents struggle to find places for their children.
Additionally, Ms Ramotlhakola highlighted the importance of increasing the number of nurses in local clinics, noting that there was a shortage of healthcare workers.
Another resident from Tshweneng ward, Mr Keorapetse Sefako, urged the government to involve the community in the fight against drug dealers, who are contributing to rising social problems.
He explained that residents, especially those living in the area, often knew individuals selling dangerous drugs, and it was crucial to work with the police to identify them so that necessary action could be taken.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Ntlhaile said he would assess the situation and inform them about the Botswana Speaks or Mmualebe initiative, which would enable them to communicate with him online and share their views.
He said that his office was open to the public, encouraging residents to visit. He assured them that his role was to convey their concerns to the relevant authorities.
He also emphasised that he would work closely with councillors and traditional leaders to ensure that his community received the necessary support. ENDS
