Government and De Beers renew partnership

The Government of Botswana and De beers have reaffirmed commitment to their enduring partnership which has lasted over 50 years.

The two partners recently concluded negotiations focused on establishing a new sales agreement for Debswana rough diamond production, as well as extending Debswana’s mining license beyond 2029.

According to a Press Release from the Ministry of Minerals and Energy, the development was in alignment with the Heads of Terms agreed on September 30, 2023.

The duo’s collaboration, the release states,  is aimed at the responsible recovery, marketing and sale of diamonds, ensuring the sustainability of the global diamond industry while enhancing the significant fiscal and societal contributions that the diamonds provided to Botswana.

It also states that following the issuance of the new mining licenses by the appropriate regulatory authorities in Botswana and final governance approvals, both parties look forward to signing and executing the relevant agreements.

The release further states that the Government of Botswana and De Beers remain steadfast in their dedication in fostering a robust and sustainable diamond sector that positively impact the nation’s economy and supports the welfare of the citizens.

It also states that until the execution of the new agreements, the terms of the existing agreements will continue to remain in effect.. ENDS
