KDC to receive P3.1m from Road Levy Fund

The Kanye District Council will receive P3.1 million from the Road Levy Fund to maintain roads, the Acting Chief Civil Engineer, Mr Kebonye Soriletsile said recently.
“The list of prioritised roads will be submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for consideration and approval. Project implementation will commence as soon as the funds are made available,” he said.
Addressing a kgotla meeting, Mr Soriletsile emphasised the ongoing concerns regarding the poor condition of the district’s internal roads, which were characterised by unmarked routes, absence of signage, potholes, and dangerous conditions during the rainy season.
As part of a broader improvement strategy, he said the council planned to install asphalt overlays on key routes, including the stretch from the four-way junction leading to the hospital and the road from Mmathethe to the Mookami Junior Secondary School.
To facilitate these improvements, Mr Soriletsile said the council must first secure permission and obtain mining rights to extract gravel from Tsokwane Hill, which will be essential for maintaining and upgrading the roads within Kanye.
Despite acknowledging that the allocated funds may not cover all necessary repairs, he was optimistic that the money would allow for targeted improvements on select roads. ENDS
