03 Feb 2025
Teaching and learning at Maratswane Satellite School, which was interrupted due to lack of transportation for teachers to travel to the school since January 14 has normalised.
The commitment was made by an official from the Department of Education during a briefing session for Member of Parliament for Takatokwane constituency, Mr Jacob Kelebeng, who is also a Minister of Sports and Arts and MP for Letlhakeng constituency, Brigadier Domcaza Mokgwathi recently.
Letlhakeng Sub-region Chief Education Officer, Ms Segopodiso Selato said from Monday, teachers would be transported to and from the school until a permanent solution was found.
She explained that Maratswane Satellite School teachers were commuting from Malwelwe, some seven kilometers away from Maratswane, and had been relying on lifts to get to work.
The satellite school started operating in 2020 as a wing of Malwelwe Primary School. It currently has four teachers and 72 pupils, and offers studies from pre-school to standard four.
Meanwhile, principal education officer, Mr Tshiamo Ndebele said the sub-region was experiencing acute shortage of textbooks in junior schools. He regretted that outcome-based education, specifically horticulture at Mahupu Unified Secondary School, was experiencing a challenge of shortage of resources. ENDS
