Sedie community calls for 24-hour health facility

03 Feb 2025

In a passionate appeal for enhanced healthcare services, residents of Sedia expressed concerns over the limitation of their local clinic during a recent kgotla meeting convened by the Member of Parliament, Dumelang Saleshando.

They called for an upgrade of their clinic to a 24-hour health facility, complete with a maternity unit.

The meeting which took place last week saw a significant turnout from community members who voiced their frustrations regarding the current state of their community.

Many residents highlighted the critical need for round-the-clock medical services, particularly for emergencies and maternal care.

“The health of our community depends on accessible and timely medical services and right now the clinic operates with only two nurses in this big community,” said Sedie Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Oletile Taolo.

Mr Taolo stated that the absence of a maternity unit resulted in expectant mothers having to travel to distant facilities for prenatal and postnatal care.

Mr Saleshando acknowledged challenges faced by the community, assuring them that the matter would be attended by the relevant departments.

“Health is a fundamental right, and it is essential that our facilities meet the needs of our growing population and therefore this matter will be followed up,” said Mr Saleshando.

Saleshando committed to advocate for the changes and upgrades needed by the Sedie community and urged public workers to serve to their best ability in order to realise the necessary changes in the society. ENDS
