Sankoyo coach has high hopes

03 Feb 2025

Following their two all draw against Eleven Angels in a First Division North encounter played at Maun Sports Complex over the weekend, Sankoyo Bush Bucks head coach, Letsogile Mothowaeng has expressed hope that his team will bounce back in the remaining fixtures.

He was of the view that technically, the boys were better but had some challenges to convert great opportunities into goals.

The coach also stated that there was a need to beef up the striking department, citing that they lacked a striker who could navigate through tight spaces and beat defenders.

“We have recently signed a few players but we still need a top striker who can make quick decisions under pressure and easily convert opportunities into goals,” he added.

However, Mothowaeng gave credit to his boys, saying they fought hard and could have scored more goals but they lost concentration in the second half, noting that they also had to work on their fitness as they aim to trace their roots back to the elite league.

Sankoyo, affectionately known as ‘Ngurungu’ also shared spoils with Real Brothers in the opening game of the year at Letlhakane two weeks back as they played to a goalless draw.

On the other hand, the visiting Eleven Angels assistant coach, Agang Sedakwa noted that his team was also eager to return to the premier league, saying they had signed some players to assemble a strong squad that could bring results.

He, however thanked his boys for the fight indicating that winning away matches had been a challenge but to share spoils was fair enough.

Meanwhile, the encounter started on a high as Sankoyo were rewarded in the seventh minute when unmarked Boikobo Mokoya slotted home to put Ngurungu ahead.

After the recess, Ngurungu continued to display a spirited fight but their opponents also showed some recovery signs, especially after coach Sedakwa introduced the likes of Moemedi ‘Max’ Karondo who brought stability in the team.

On the 59th minute, Sankoyo’s Kaizer Saungweme scored the second goal sending supporters into rapturous applause and it was not long as Karondo levelled matters in the 67th minute after a brilliant pass from Tefo Batlang.

Eleven Angels continued to pile more pressure on Sankoyo’s boys who looked tired until Karondo scored the second goal in the last dying minutes of the game to make it 2-2 at the end. ENDS
