Segolame Boy’s wonder strike and Godfrey Tauyatswala first half goals have propelled Township Rollers to the summit of the FNB Premiership log standing with a 2-1 victory over VTM at the Royal Aria Stadium on Saturday.
The win handed Rollers’ their 10th victory of the season to go atop of the log standing.
In a cagey encounter of two contrasting halves, Rollers were dominant in the first half and headed to the first half interval with two goals advantage but VTM nonetheless regrouped in the second half and struck from the penalty spot through Ayanda Molefhe in the 49th minute of the second half.
In a bid to claw their way back into the tie, VTM sent in waves of attacks in search of an equaliser but were denied on a number of occasions by resolute Rollers defence marshaled by captain Simisani Mathumo and Bapaletswe Simon. The Rollers centre back pair has been rock solid and has only considered 11 goals thus far with a series of clean sheets.
Cognisant of the fact that the league marathon was still far from over, Rollers’ victory against VTM has put some daylight between them and pacesetters and league contenders TAFIC who played to a one-all draw with Jwaneng Galaxy on Saturday.
Meanwhile, in other week 17 premier league games played over the weekend, Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ Zimbabwean striker, Dumisani Kubane made a dream debut for his side with a brace to hand his side a 2-0 victory against Nico at Sam Sono Stadium in Selibe Phikwe.
Highflying Sua Flamingoes continued with their fine form registering their fourth win in a row with commanding 4-1 victory at home to Matebele.
Security Systems collected maximum points in Letlhakane defeating Orapa united 2-1, while Morupule Wanderers salvaged a draw against Union Flamengo Santos courtesy of a late Bonang Theetso equaliser. ends
